I started my career back in 1994 and spent 20 odd years as a partner in three large legal firms in Glasgow dealing with residential conveyancing. During my career when I was a little less busy which was not often I thought back to my training in a legal firm where the senior partner had a stake in a firm of IFAs and considered taking mortgage exams and offering this as an additional service to clients. I would then get busy again and the mortgage idea fell off the radar.

 

Well, it came back on the radar in 2015 when I decided to leave the legal firm and retrain, sit my exams and offer mortgage and protection advice to clients. I remain a qualified solicitor and through a consultancy agreement with Lindsays, I am able to offer legal advice to prospective clients. In essence, offering clients a one call, tailored solution for those wanting to buy, sell or remortgage property.

 

After qualifying, I began working with Chris Brown of Begley Brown Financial Solutions Limited in 2016 and in July 2017 we agreed that I would buy the mortgage book and start my own company Bricks and Mortar Mortgages with a commencement date of January 2018

 

The name comes from a podcast of the same name that I started in 2015. The Bricks and Mortar Podcast was set up as I felt that there was a dearth of relevant understandable information relating to residential property in the marketplace. Slowly but surely the podcast has gained traction and is seen by many in the Buy to Let community as the go-to podcast for information on that particular part of the industry in Scotland.

 

Indeed, I give keynote speeches on the topic and mentor clients who are just starting out on the BTL journey.I act for and advise clients from first-time buyers to those for whom this is not their first rodeo. The self-employed, directors and contractors are attracted to us given our expertise in this field. With a property portfolio of my own, advising the BTL investor is also a mainstay of the firm.
